More Mobbin (part 4)

Day's Theme Song: Desperado - The Eagles

An action packed day ahead of us, we woke up at a reasonable hour for a change this morning and hopped right in the car - destination: Devil's Tower. This was expected to be the creme de la creme for Suzi and we drove along wondering if we would be disappointed by the tower, since all we could see were average looking hills and we were supposedly almost on top of it. But of course, just as we uttered this concern, Suzi shouted OMG! There it was, popped out of nowhere, and completely fabulous! So...ummm...we saw that...and turned around to head for Deadwood.

Well, Deadwood is just the cutest little historic town. We bopped right in and had lunch at the Gold Rush Casino Buffet...followed by Suzi gambling and me staring at her gambling (you know this is what I do...) Coming out ahead, we set out to find Dead Man's Hand. Now, one would think that the locals would know just where to direct us, but we soon learned that all there is to do in Deadwood is "drink, do drugs, and gamble". Good thing we were only there for two hours or we could have been in trouble. Not easily discouraged, we asked another knowledgeable looking soul, who gave us a barely audible answer, but seemed to know the general location of the thing. We wandered into Saloon #10, where we saw Wild Bill himself strutting around the stage describing his untimely demise. After dinking around a few shops, we decided we had stayed exactly as long as we needed to and forged on.

Off to Crazy Horse! We wound our way around the Black Hills, taking in the beautiful scenery. Suzi saw what we believe to be a mountain goat, but due to my superb driving focus, I missed it. We found Crazy Horse to be quite impressive, and learned that a 10 story building will fit in his arm pit. Mount Rushmore will also fit on his head in case anyone is concerned. Despite all this, however...neither of us really believes that they will actually finish it in this lifetime. They have made progress, but there is a LONG way to go!

Moving on to the most anticipated leg of the journey for me, we set out for Mount Rushmore! Suzi drove and I tried not to pee my pants as we climbed higher and higher toward the mountain. As we pulled into the parking area, I screamed "THERE IT IS", but managed to maintain bladder control. We then encountered a heinous beeeatch at the parking area who informed us that our National Park pass was no good here and we could either pay to park or leave. Immediately making her our enemy, we set out to see the sights (and find someone to whine to). We hiked around the presidential trail, where I looked right up Lincoln's nose. Mount Rushmore did not disappoint, and we got some great pics.

Winding down, we headed for Rapid City for the night. We ate a fabulous dinner at Ruby Tuesday's where Suzi ate a steak! I know! The world is not as we knew it. But, yummmmm. So...we are now in for the night, anticipating a long day of driving tomorrow. Sioux Falls, here we come! Our waitress at dinner told us it smells there, but we just need to see for ourselves. We will be stopping at Wall Drug, but other than that we will need to make some good adventures happen in order to stay sane.

See you tomorrow!
